I’ve been in a helluva rabbit hole. It’s a conspiracy theory rabbit hole, and it’s prompted me to want to do a follow-up on an earlier post I did titled “What if Satan is God’s BFF?”
As background, David Icke is the grandfather of conspiracy theorists. *Disclaimer: I’m using his belief system as a way to demonstrate my point. I am not in any way endorsing his thesis.
He was a conspiracy theorist before the term even came into existence. I haven’t delved too deep into his personal history, but the crux of his argument is that non-human beings are walking around the Earth in human skin suits. For those who’ve encountered this theory before, they’re often called the reptilian people.
Icke believes these beings feed off of low vibrational energy (attention, life force, whatever you want to call it), and they have inserted themselves in positions of power because they want to feed off the evil perpetrated within. It’s basically the cabal conspiracy theory, except the Illuminati are demonic or low-vibrational forces. The background is mostly irrelevant, but I find it fascinating, so I wanted to give you the option of going down the rabbit hole.
The real reason I’m telling you all of this is because, controversy aside, Icke’s worldview exemplifies an all-too-common mindset in our society. He focuses on the spiritual instead of the material.
According to Icke, the reason the world hasn’t woken up to the evil in its midst is because we’re trapped in what he terms the “five senses reality,” also known as physical reality, or the real world. We haven’t opened our minds to the possibility of evil, unseen forces working in the background to degrade our world.
Except… our world focuses on the spiritual almost to exclusion. David Icke is a perfect example of it! His solution to this vast evil conspiracy is to escape from material concerns. To dissolve into spiritual infinity. To inspire humanity to become aware of the unseen evil forces in its midst, as though focusing on them will somehow affect the very tangible evil in our world that can only be combated with tangible actions. Just as the Uncommitted movement would have been satisfied with the Democratic party throwing them a pity speaker’s slot at their genocide convention, so too would David Icke be satisfied with awareness as the ultimate goal.
Let’s assume this is real. I’m not saying it’s real, but my point is that even if it is real - even in the most extreme scenarios - it’s still not helpful. If this is real, then awareness is an answer to it? Bullshit. There’s no attempt to stop it, no attempt to get organized; the only goal is to make people aware of nameless, invisible forces out there in the ether who might be feeding on our energy.
Here’s the problem. The evil in this world is very much centered around the five senses. Murder, human trafficking, you name it - every single example of evil is profoundly material in nature. Every bit of it happens in physical reality.
It doesn’t matter if nefarious forces are acting upon us. Only our actions matter.
Similarly, every effective solution to our problems is found in physical reality. You don’t gather a prayer group together if you want to stop a human trafficking ring; you bust down the doors and save the kids. Whether the trafficking ring was started by some evil person influenced by reptilians or just another disgusting person, the real-world result is the same. More importantly, the solution is the same, too.
David Icke is wrong to believe that the problem with our society is that we’re too focused on the material. Our problem is and has always been that we’re too focused on the spiritual. We’re too focused on assigning invisible causes to things happening right before our eyes!
It’s not just conspiracy theorists who do this; religion does this as well. We live in a society where many of us pray if something goes wrong. This is partly because we don’t have any other recourse, but if we did have one, I would hope that we would act instead of pray. Religion is a way to explain or organize events in physical reality. Pray as much as you want, but if you really want to change things, eventually you have to get up and do something.
Though interesting to think about, the spiritual realm is not the ultimate cause of anything in our reality. The most spiritual forces can ever do is influence or persuade us to act. If we want to make change, what we have to focus on is our physical reality and the changes possible within it.
